Editorial:

Now that you have had the opportunity to see the new front cover of CRANIO, you may remember this is only the third time the journal cover design has been altered. Additional colors and a photo have been added after 22 years of the same cover design. The newly designed cover reflects a beam of light as it passes through a prism of the current century, spreading out and highlighting individuals, multidiciplinary practice areas, and topics of interest. The photo will change and on occasion will feature recognition for an individual or a composite likeness representative of differing topics or fields. I decided to highlight CRANIO’s diversity while focusing on it strengths. The complete list of articles and their authors will no longer be featured on the cover. We will feature two or three titles and, of course, there will still be a complete listing with authors names in the index. CRANIO will kick off its 25th year with a new ad campaign, anchored by the phrase, “When you need to know . . . CRANIO” We hope that this catchy phrase will result in a consistent growth in readership. Our current cover individual, Parker Mahan, is a well known educator and was selected especially for the 25th anniversary issue. Parker has served with distinction on the Editorial Board of CRANIO from its inception. Other individuals listed in the journal’s first editorial board and still serving include Drs. Harold Gelb, Jack Haden, Mariano Rocabado, and Bill Slagle. Throughout the years, many other highly respected colleagues have dedicated their time and energies to making CRANIO the successful publication that it has become. The journal readership owes them a vote of thanks for all the time they spend in this service. At this milestone, CRANIO has published an estimated 750-800 articles covering all major areas of temporomandibular joint pain and dysfunction by authors from all over the world. Not to mention the 50 editorials and numerous continuing education course lisitings, along with several white papers and general dentistry articles. What, for me, started out to be a three to four year project has become a lifetime of commitment to publishing the very best scientific information available in a readable format, while distributing it in a timely manner. I hope that our readers have enjoyed watching CRANIO mature just as much as I have enjoyed publishing it. The future is a bright one for us. The current Editorial Board is prepared to continue reviewing and contributing their expertise to manuscripts offered by innovative clinicians. The journal is currently experiencing a large influx of material from authors old and new. Our emphasis will continue to be to present new concepts and current information as we have always done in the past. Few peer publications have enjoyed the popularity that CRANIO has experienced. I constantly meet subscribers at dental meeting and courses who enjoy relating to me how long they have subscribed and how much they look forward to each issue. Their enthusiasm encourages me to maintain my efforts. It would not be possible to continue to present issues with the same quality and readability if it were not for the outstanding work of Karen Kimbell, assistant editor, and Angela Jordi, advertising and circulation manager. Another person responsible for our continued success and statistical accuracy is the attention to detail that Dr. David Parks, statistical editor, gives to our manuscripts that include statistical data. From all our staff, we pledge to you the continued pursuit of excellence as we set our goals even higher for the next decade. Thank you for joining us on our journey toward truth as it presents itself in the pages of CRANIO.
